Ag Ventilation Fans

The fan must have been tested by the Bioenvironmental and Structural Systems Laboratory (BESS Lab).

The fan must meet the minimum allowable efficiencies based on fan size below:

Ag Ventilation Fan VSD
All Offerings
-
The VSD must be used to vary the speed of a livestock barn ventilation fan automatically based on ambient conditions.
-
The VSD must be installed as close to the motor as possible when applying VSD to a standard duty NEMA motor. Failure to do so may result in motor failure. Sufficient airflow must be maintained through the motor to prevent overheating.
-
The VSD is recommended to meet requirements as specified by IEE Standard 519-2014.
-
The customer must have an existing electrically operated fixed speed fan installed onsite or plans to install a new electrically operated fixed fan.
-
This measure is applicable to all existing agricultural facilities used to house livestock.
-
This measure is not applicable for HVAC fan, exhaust fan, pressurization fan, or fan for other process applications.
-
Individual fan motors must range between 1hp and 5hp.
-
Existing fan motors must not be two-speed or have an existing VSD.
Ag Well and Booster Pump VFD
VFD on Irrigation Pump

The variable frequency drive (VFD) must be used to adjust operation of a pump to meet flow/pressure requirements and not be used simply as a soft starter or for cavitation control.

The pumping application must currently have the means to vary the pressure/flow
-
The VFD must be installed on the pump motor with a minimum operation of 1,000 hours per year.
-
The VFD must be installed on a pressurized irrigation system (no flood irrigation).
-
The VFD is recommended to meet requirements as specified by IEEE Standard 519™-2014.
-
The customer must have an existing electrically operated agricultural booster or well pump installed on site or plans to install a new agricultural booster or well pump.
Enhanced VFD on Irrigation Pump

Boiler
Boiler, Process

Must meet applicable state and federal codes and standards for process boilers - California Appliance Efficiency Standards (Title 20) and Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24).

Water boilers must have an input rating greater than or equal to 20,000 Btu/hr. The combustion efficiency must have a documented combustion efficiency of 85% or greater under full load conditions.

Steam boilers must have an input rating greater than or equal to 20,000 kBtu/hr. The combustion efficiency must have a documented combustion efficiency of 83% or greater under full load conditions.
Steam Boiler Economizer

The boiler manufacturer, model, and spec sheet should be submitted for verification.

For a dual stage economizer:

The disposal of combustion condensate must meet local codes regarding sanitary drain or storm sewer.​

Some applications may require a neutralizer for the acidic combustion condensate.

Clean Water Pump

Confirm the pump energy index (PEI) on the Hydraulic Institute (HI) database.

All Offerings

Participant must have an existing electrically operated fixed-speed fan installed on site or plans to install a new electrically operated fixed-speed fan.
-
The existing baghouse, fan, and motor must be in proper operating condition.
-
The baghouse fan motor must be compatible with a variable speed drive (VSD). (Motors that are compatible with VSDs vary by manufacturer. Compatible motors may be labeled as inverter duty, VSD ready, or have insulation classification F)
-
There must be no previous VSD or failed VSD installed on the baghouse existing fan motor.
-
The minimum fan size must be 10 hp to 150 hp, as defined in the measure description.
-
The installed VSD must be controlled based on static pressure, airflow rate (cfm), or velocity at the lowest required rate to keep particulates suspended in the air stream.
-
The VSD is recommended to meet requirements as specified by IEEE Standard 519-2014.
-
The fan/blower must not be a designed high-pressure blower. High pressure blowers have designed capacities of less than 150 cfm per rated horsepower. (Applicable only to fan motors larger than 50 hp.)
Greenhouses
Greenhouse IR Film
-
The IR Film must be installed in a gas-heated greenhouse facility.
-
The heating equipment type (building HVAC) must be specified in the implementation of the measure.
-
The facility must be a greenhouse with the primary purpose of agricultural use.
-
The film must be infrared, anti-condensate, polyethylene plastic with a minimum thickness of six thousandths of an inch.
-
The IR film must not be installed on the walls of the greenhouse.
Greenhouse Heat Curtain
-
Must be a single-layer interior curtain installed for heat retention.
-
Must be installed in a gas-heated greenhouse facility with the primary purpose of agricultural use.
-
The heat curtain must be a new curtain installed where none previously existed or a new curtain that is replacing an existing curtain that is no longer functional.
-
The heat curtain must be installed above the conditioned area where the gas heat source provides hot air to plant and seed species.
-
The heat curtain must have a natural gas savings rating that meets or exceeds 40%.
-
The heat curtain must have a warranty/product life of five years.
-
The installation must allow the curtain to be automatically or manually moved into place.
-
The square footage of the new heat curtain must not exceed the square footage of the greenhouse floor. Additionally, any overhang and overlap of curtain material cannot be included in the square footage calculation.
Multiplex Refrigeration Systems
Floating Head Pressure Controls
To reduce floating head pressure to lower saturated condensing temperature (SCT), the equipment must meet the following requirements:
-
The controls are added to float head pressure down to a lower pressure when conditions permit (i.e., changes control from fixed setpoint to floating setpoint).
-
The controls only apply to refrigeration systems having multiplex compressor systems with exsiting control of the SCT at a fixed setpoint.
-
The new SCT setpoint must follow the ambient temperature by controlling condenser fans with variable-speed drives or by staging condenser fans.
-
New hardware must be installed, projects cannot only reprogram the controller.
-
Must not be new construction installation.
-
Improvement must not increase system energy use.
-
Must not be sub-cooler loads or air conditioning loads.
-
Building vintage and refrigeration vintage must be prior to 2013.
Floating Suction Controls
For adding controls to reset the suction pressure setpoint, the equipment must meet the following requirements:
-
Convert the suction pressure controls of an existing multiplex system from fixed control to floating control.
-
Adjust suction pressure to the highest point that will still maintain setpoint temperatures at monitored cases on the suction circuit.
-
In addition to equipment, a customer must receive training materials including instruction to not override the suction pressure reset or have a service contract for the refrigeration system that includes maintaining controls settings.
-
New hardware must be installed, projects cannot only reprogram a controller.
-
Must not be new construction installation.
-
Must not be floating suction pressure control systems on refrigeration systems with variable speed evaporator fans.
-
Improvement must not increase system energy use.
-
Must not be refrigeration systems with heat recovery for process or comfort heating.
-
Building vintage and refrigeration vintage must be prior to 2013.
New Refrigeration Display Case
-
Must replace an existing, open, multi-deck display case with a new reach-in unit with doors, electronically commutated motor (ECM), evaporator fan(s), and LED lighting.
-
Medium-temperature cases must have no heat in the door. Heat is allowed in the frames of medium temperature cases.
-
Low-temperature case door and frame heaters combined may not consume more than 50 W/ft of case length.
-
The new case length must be less than or equal to the original case length.
-
The new case setpoint temperature cannot be lower than the original case setpoint temperature.
-
The measure is only for display cases served by a remote refrigeration system.
Pipe Insualtion
All Offerings
-
The pipe transfers hot water, low-pressure steam, or medium-pressure steam directly from the gas-fired equipment.
-
The pipe diameter is greater than or equal to 0.5".
-
A minimum of 1" of pipe insulation was added to existing bare commercial or industrial steel or copper pipe.
-
The installation of this measure did not trigger compliance with current California Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24) requirements.
-
Installed insulation is not replacing damaged (existing) insulation.
-
Hot water pipes are insulated with elastomeric foam rubber, polyethylene foam, UV-resistant polyethylene foam, or rigid polyethylene foam.
-
Steam pipes are insulated with silicone foam rubber, melamine foam, rigid urethane-based foam, cellular glass, rigid fiberglass, and rigid mineral wool.
Wineries and Breweries
Commercial Hand-Wrap Machine, Electric
-
The new commercial on-demand hand-wrap machine must use either a mechanical or optical control system.
-
The new hand-wrap machine may replace a conventional or always-on hand-wrap machine, or may be installed where there was not an existing hand-wrap machine (i.e. non-replacement installations).
-
Used or rebuilt hand-wrap machines are not eligible.
Commercial Underfired Broiler - Gas
-
The cooktop must have been tested via the ASTM F1521 test method to have a cooking efficiency greater than or equal to 81% for electric units or greater than or equal to 43% for gas units.
-
Used or rebuilt equipment is not eligible.
Cooktop, Commercial
-
The cooktop must have been tested via the ASTM F1521 test method to have a cooking efficiency greater than or equal to 81% for electric units or greater than or equal to 43% for gas units.

Used or rebuilt equipment is not eligible.
Exhaust Hood Demand Controlled Ventilation, Commercial
-
The measure requires the installation of a sensor(s) in the hood exhaust collar or within the hood, that senses cooking conditions and allows the system to automatically vary the rate of exhaust and make-up airflow. Advanced systems that can communicate directly with cooking appliances varying the ventilation rate based on cook cycles are allowed in lieu of hood sensors.
-
The control system must be used in conjunction with a variable-speed drive (VSD) or directly vary the speed of an EC motor on the exhaust and supply fans. Systems with a single exhaust fan installed on multiple hoods must use balancing dampers to vary the airflow in the separate hoods.
-
The control system must be able to control the supply airflow proportional to the exhaust airflow on the makeup air side by either varying the speed of the MUA or DOAS fan motor or by varying the amount of outside air by controlling a damper. This can be done indirectly by the DCKV system through EMS integration or direct communication with the MUA or DOAS.
-
Installations of new exhaust hoods must have a total of all kitchen hoods' exhaust be less than or equal to 5,000 cfm.
-
Used or rebuilt hoods are not eligible.
-
New exhaust hoods systems over 5,000 cfm which have not met any of three alternative options listed in Title 24 Section 140.9(b)2B (below) are not eligible.
-
At least 50% of replacement air is transfer air, ​
-
Energy recovery devices with a minimum sensible effectiveness of 40% are installed on at least 50% of the total exhaust, or
-
At least 75% of makeup air is unheated or heated to a maximum of 60 degrees F and uncooled or cooled without mechanical cooling.
-
-
If none of the three options above are selected, a DCKV system installed on 75% if exhaust air must:​
-
Include controls necessary to modulate airflow in response to appliance operation and to maintain full capture and containment of smoke, effluent, and combustion products during cooking and idle; and
-
Include failsafe controls that result in full flow upon cooking sensor failure; and
-
Include an adjustable timed override to allow occupants the ability to temporarily override the system to full flow; and
-
Be capable of reducing exhaust and replacement air system airflow rates of:
-
50 percent of the total design exhaust and replacement air system airflow rates; or​
-
The ventilation rate required as specified by Section 120.1(c)3.

Glycol Pump VFD
-
The VFD must be installed on an existing glycol pump motor. Chilled fluid, other than glycol can be considered only if the unit energy savings (UES) is equal to or exceeds the UES of this measure.
-
The existing glycol pump(s) must operate at a constant speed.
-
The VFD must have automated controls based on pressure feedback, fluid temperature feedback, and/or flow rate feedback.
-
The VFD must not be installed on a back-up or redundant pump
Patio Heater
-
All patio heaters must be tested by an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory using ASTM F2644-07.
-
The measure pertains to energy efficient gas patio heaters of vertical and horizontal type with the following heating index ratings:

Vertical (Standalone) Patio Heater: 2.2​

Horizontal (Wall Mount) Patio Heater: 2.2
